Needs

Jesus lived and taught a different model of religion wherein our small self has no truth except as part of the God self and where religious identity is an entirely “positive” experience of letting go, forgiving, and including the seeming enemy.  Jesus pushes his followers to see God in the least, the last, and the wounded self (and others) – the places where we do not want to see God.
-from Everything Belongs by Richard Rohr, a Franciscan priest

Our guests often remind us of the above truth. We know that in order to enjoy God’s beauty and order we also need to see God in the wounded, angry and seemingly purposeless – in others as well as ourselves.  Our donors also remind us of this truth with the generosity. Below are the approximate monthly expenses for Lantern Light Ministries:

Our approximate monthly expenses are:

  • $1000 for prescriptions
  • $2000 for paper/plastic eating supplies
  • $600 for individual Louisiana ID cards for our guests
  • $300 for birth certificates
  • $300 for meat, mayo & mustard for sandwiches (all the bread is baked and donated by the Benedictine monastery)
  •  $4000 for our quarterly for our share of the Center’s expenses (water, electricity, etc.)
  • Additional incidental expenses of printing, office supplies, etc.
  • Sometimes there are addeed expenses when we have to supplement our food pantry program so that we can give a healthy variety of groceries to about 110 families a month
